How it started

Three chapters, one kitchen

01

A taste of home for London, Ontario

Roswen started with a simple idea: Nigerian and West African families in London shouldn’t have to drive to a bigger city for the food they grew up with. From a stall inside the historic Covent Garden Market, our African-owned kitchen cooks traditional recipes passed down within the community — slow-simmered stews, grilled meats and soups built on real palm oil, crayfish and pepper.

02

A menu that became a downtown favourite

Word travelled fast. Jollof rice with chicken, Nigerian fried rice, ofada rice with ayamase, egusi soup and okra soup with fufu, and assorted meat pepper soup now feed office workers, Fanshawe downtown campus students and market visitors every day. Portions are generous, everything is prepared fresh, and daily specials keep regulars coming back for dine-in and takeout.

03

An African food store beside the kitchen

The other half of Roswen is a full African grocery: garri, fufu flours, palm oil, dried fish and stockfish, Nigerian spices and seasonings, canned goods, snacks and soft drinks from across West Africa. Eat with us at the market, then shop the ingredients and cook the same dishes at home — one stop for hot Nigerian food and authentic African groceries in London, Ontario.

Authentic Nigerian food right here in London. The jollof rice and chicken tasted just like home – rich, smoky flavour and perfectly cooked rice. Portions are generous and the staff are very friendly.

First time trying Nigerian food and it was amazing. The egusi soup with fufu was so comforting and full of flavour. The lady at the counter explained the dishes and helped me choose. I’ll definitely be back.

Great spot in Covent Garden Market. I grabbed jollof with plantain on my lunch break and it was hot, fresh, and reasonably priced. You can also buy African groceries right beside the restaurant which is super convenient.

I’m Nigerian and very picky with my food, but Roswen did not disappoint. The ofada rice and ayamase stew were authentic and spicy, just the way it should be. So happy to have this place in London.

Delicious comfort food and warm service. The pepper soup cleared my cold in one evening and the goat was so tender. Nice to sit in the market and enjoy something different from the usual options.
